FDA-Approved Levels for Menhaden Fish Oil as a Food Ingredient
To date the FDA has approved menhaden fish oil as a direct GRAS food ingredient and is OU (Orthodox Union) kosher certified. OmegaPure® menhaden fish oil is a source of long chain omega-3 EPA and DHA.
Additional categories are now being considered for approval by the FDA. These categories are expected to broaden the food applications for essential long chain omega-3 fatty acids. These categories are: quick breads, non-alcoholic beverages, chewing gum, confections and frostings, dairy product analogs, non-dairy milk, gelatins & puddings, pasta, hard candy, jams and jellies, gelatin drinks and meal supplements, flavored milk & milk drinks, milk products, milk based meal replacements, milk dry & powdered mixtures, plant protein products, poultry products, processed fruit drinks, processed vegetable drinks, soft candy, white granulated sugar, sugar substitutes, sweet sauces, toppings and syrups.
